Liverpool are close to confirming one loan deal and more will follow once Arne Slot can properly assess his transfer options

Liverpool have been in the United States less than 48 hours and already Arne Slot's squad is beginning to break up.

And the latest imminent departure is likely to be the first of many dominos to fall during what will be a busy final month of the transfer window for the Reds.

Luke Chambers, one of a group of youngsters to have made the trip Stateside, will join Calvin Ramsay at League One side Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan after the tour having impressed at the Latics during a temporary stay during the second half of last term.

The 20-year-old left-back made his first-team breakthrough for the Reds earlier in the campaign from the bench in the League Cup win over Leicester City and was given a full debut a few weeks later in the home Europa League triumph over Toulouse.

Jayden Danns has missed the tour with a back injury and has attracted loan interest from Wayne Rooney's Plymouth Argyle.

Bobby Clark is close to returning after his own back issue, but having made a full first-team breakthrough last season is most likely to stay with Liverpool.

Kaide Gordon and Ben Doak are both vying for a place as backup to the established forward line and, with neither expected to gain much from dropping back to the under-21s this season, one or both would seem primed for a temporary exit.

The situation is slightly different for three more senior players who were on loan last season.

Should the head coach believe their immediate futures are best served elsewhere, a decision would have to made on whether that is permanent should offers be forthcoming.

It wasn't so long ago that being sent out on loan was effectively the death knell to a Liverpool career, with Slot's predecessor Jurgen Klopp initially not a fan of the initiative.

That, though, has changed over time, with Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley all examples of players who have benefited from a spell away.
