Liverpool's dream defence after van Dijk contract extension and three signings

Liverpool's plans for next season became much clearer after it was confirmed that Virgil van Dijk had signed a new contract with the club.

These last few months had seen speculation ramp-up over whether or not the Reds captain would put pen-to-paper on a new deal, or leave for nothing this summer.

It was confirmed on Thursday morning that van Dijk has now signed a two-year contract extension, which will run until 2027.



The update comes less than a week after it was announced that Mohamed Salah had, also, agreed fresh terms with the Reds on a two-year deal.

Now that van Dijk has committed his future to Liverpool for another two years, the Reds can start planning what their defence will look like beyond this season.

However, there are still question marks over whether or not those plans will feature Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will become a free agent this summer - as things stand.
