Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt has urged the club's management and their influential captain, Virgil van Dijk, to agree on a new contract, stating that the Dutchman still has many years left at his peak.
Van Dijk, 33, is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Kuyt believes it's a no-brainer for Liverpool to extend his contract, despite him nearing the end of his career.
"Virgil leads in such a great way and he's playing at his best level," the former Anfield favorite told The Athletic.
Dirk Kuyt has told FSG to ensure a deal gets done to keep Virgil van Dijk
Everyone who likes Liverpool wants these players to sign new contracts tomorrow but we don't know the details
All I can say is I hope that soon we get the green light that they will be staying at Liverpool as they're still among the best players in the world."
Arne Slot has voiced his desire to keep the ex-Celtic and Southampton defender within his ranks for the following campaign.
About the matter, Slot commented earlier this month: "I don't know what's happening next season as well in terms of results but that is not what you mean
The only thing I know is that I want Virgil to be here next season."
