Rayan Cherki has been likened to Lionel Messi, but the Frenchman has expressed his desire to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo instead.
The 21-year-old forward, a product of Lyon's youth system, has found himself on Liverpool's radar this January, as Mohamed Salah's current contract is set to run out at the end of the season.
Despite the 32-year-old's stellar performances in the Premier League - netting 19 goals and providing 13 assists in 22 appearances this season - there are question marks over his future at Anfield.
This could force Arne Slot into significant transfer action should their star player be shown the exit door.
The Reds have recently been linked with Cherki amid the uncertainty surrounding Salah's future - a player who has been compared to the world's best.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas previously made a bold comparison, saying: "Cherki is comparable to Messi in terms of technical quality."
Yet, the player himself has admitted that he actually looks up to Messi's famed rival, Ronaldo.
In a conversation with Telefoot, he expressed his admiration, saying: "I had lots of idols but the one that I think is the best and the example to follow is Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Regarding his work and his longevity, that is the example that you have to follow." Cherki also shared his desire to delight fans on the field, adding: "I am here to provide joy for people and to also enjoy myself too and I think that is what makes the difference, whilst being efficient all the while."

Ronaldo, who will be celebrating his 40th birthday in February, continues to defy age with his performance levels.
Despite his contract with Al-Nassr nearing its end, he's not yet indicated any plans to hang up his boots.
Liverpool could face stiff competition if they wish to secure the services of Cherki, with Newcastle United also reportedly interested in the versatile attacking midfielder.
