The Belgian maestro has been a thorn in Liverpool's side, featuring 20 times against them, netting four goals and providing nine assists.
It's a telling stat that City have never lost to Liverpool when De Bruyne has been on the scoresheet, boasting four wins and five draws.
Yet, in a surprising twist, former England international Lee Sharpe has floated the idea of Liverpool snapping up De Bruyne - who Mohamed Salah has always wanted to play with - in the upcoming transfer window.
Speaking on Stadium Astro, the ex-Manchester United winger drew parallels with Gary McAllister's impactful late-career move to Liverpool: "I think it could be actually worth a gamble for Liverpool," Sharpe opined.
He elaborated on the potential benefits for both parties, suggesting a one-year deal with an option for extension if De Bruyne remains fit.
Sharpe believes De Bruyne wouldn't need to feature in every match given Liverpool's squad depth but could still make a significant impact.
He said: "If he could get a year (contract) with maybe a year extension, depending on if he stayed fit, he wouldn't have to play every game because of the strength of the squad they've got there.
He could play in certain games; I know he would want to play every game."
Sharpe concluded by endorsing the move: "I think that would be a pretty good move for him, and I think it would work out for Liverpool as well."
.
So I need to speak (with them) and I need to see whatever team wants me, so I don’t know, I have no idea, so we’ll see.”
