After a two-week hiatus, Liverpool will return to Premier League action this  Wednesday when they take on Everton at Anfield.

Both sides enter into the game carrying contrasting motivations.

For league-leading Liverpool, the derby represents a chance to edge closer to their 20th title, while a resurgent Everton under David Moyes aims to cement their mid-table resurgence and disrupt their neighbors’ charge.

The two sides’ last meeting in February 2025 delivered one of the most dramatic chapters in derby history.

James Tarkowski volleyed a 98th-minute equalizer at Goodison Park—the final Merseyside derby at the historic ground—to snatch a 2-2 draw, sparking a pitch invasion and post-match brawl that saw four red cards issued, including to Liverpool manager Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff.

Slot, who later admitted that his emotions got the better of him during the game at Goodison Park, will be desperate for his side to maintain cool heads as they look for the first win out of a possible five that will guarantee they win the title.

Pre-match stats

Liverpool have the foundation to secure a good result here as they remain the side with the longest unbeaten run in the Premier League this season.

They have won their last three Premier League home games against Everton, each by a 2-0 scoreline.

They last won more consecutive home league Merseyside derbies between 1990 and 1994 (five), while they’ve never done so without conceding.

They have also lost just one of the last 27 Merseyside derbies at Anfield (W16, D10).

Liverpool have scored at least twice in each of their last 15 domestic matches at Anfield.

Premier League’s leading goal scorer, Mohamed Salah, has been directly involved in eight goals in his last seven Premier League Merseyside derbies (six goals, two assists), both scoring and assisting in this season’s reverse fixture at Goodison Park.

The only players to score and assist in both of their Premier League matches against Everton in a single season are Chris Sutton in 1993-94 and Alan Shearer in 1994-95.

Meanwhile, since replacing Sean Dyche in December 2024, David Moyes has engineered a remarkable turnaround at Everton.

The Toffees have climbed from 18th to 15th, amassing 17 points from 10 games—a pace that would yield 65 points over a full season.

Everton (nine) have the second-longest current unbeaten run in the Premier League.

This is the Toffees’ longest unbeaten streak going into a league meeting with Liverpool since February 2010 (also nine), when they lost 1-0 at Anfield under David Moyes.

However, Everton have never won a Premier League away game against a team starting the day top of the table (played 25, drew five, lost 20).

Also, David Moyes has never won a Premier League game at Anfield.

Match officials for Liverpool vs Everton

Meanwhile, ahead of the game, the Premier League announced the officials for the game.

The Liverpool vs Everton game will be officiated by Sam Barrott, who will be assisted by Lee Betts and Timothy Wood.

Darren Bond will serve as the fourth official.
