The Reds will return to Anfield for a home clash against relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, hoping to get back to winning ways after a gut-wrenching result.
This is the second league fixture of five for Liverpool across a fifteen-day period that could decide their Premier League title fate.
Arne Slot is expected to remain on the touchline as things stand, despite his sending-off after the derby, with the PGMOL still discussing comments made towards referee Michael Oliver from Slot, described as ‘offensive, insulting and abusive.‘
This could lead to a potential FA charge and extended ban that is now under discussion.

Mohamed Salah latched onto a mistake made by former Red, Conor Coady on the edge of his own box, and the Egyptian took full advantage, slotting the ball under goalkeeper Jose Sá.
Coady was involved at the other end before the break, as referee Craig Pawson awarded Wolves a penalty, but after a VAR review, the penalty decision was rescinded, as Sadio Mane did not make contact on the defender.
A brilliant counter-attack from Liverpool in the 58th minute saw Gini Wijnaldum’s strike sail into the top right-corner, doubling the hosts’ lead.

Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Wolves in 2022 left a bitter pill to swallow due to the final-day drama that followed.
On the final day of the 2021/22 Premier League season, Liverpool knew they had to win to have any opportunity of winning the title, but only if Manchester City slipped up at home to Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.
The Reds made the worst possible start when forward Pedro Neto fired his side into an early lead, bursting Liverpool’s bubble on a pivotal day.
A slick touch and pass from Thiago Alcantara to Sadio Mane saw the latter just get the better of Jose Sá, to bring the game level after 24 minutes.
It was all-square at Anfield heading into the break whilst Manchester City were trailing by a goal, giving slight hope to Liverpool.
Ex-Red and fan favourite, Philippe Coutinho, then sent the Reds into ecstasy, scoring the goal to put Villa two-nil up at the Etihad Stadium.
LIVERPOOL 1-0 WOLVES – 29TH DECEMBER 2019 – 2019/20PremierLeague.com
Sadio Mané scored the only goal in 2019 as Liverpool edged past Wolves to continue their perfect form since returning from their Club World Cup victory in Qatar.
Liverpool had just slaughtered fellow title-challengers Leicester City, 4-0 away from home, in what was potentially the best team performance of the Jürgen Klopp era, and were in high spirits at Anfield.
Mané’s strike didn’t come without VAR controversy though.
A long, forward ball from Virgil van Dijk found Adam Lallana and the latter gently controlled the ball with his chest to setup Mané, but their were appeals for handball.
Following review, Anthony Taylor awarded the goal, despite Wolves’ complaints.
Pedro Neto then thought he had equalised in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, but celebrations were quickly brought to a halt, with an offside in the lead-up to the goal.
Van Dijk then was made to spare his blushes in the second forty-five as a lapse of concentration allowed Wolves forward, turned Liverpool teammate, Diogo Jota, to latch onto the ball but Alisson was on hand to deny him.
The Reds eventually held on for a crucial three points which brought their lead at the top of the Premier League to thirteen points, on their way to a 99-point league title-winnijg campaign.

On the final day of the 2018/19 campaign, Liverpool had to claim victory and hope Manchester City dropped points away at Brighton, to be able to clinch their first ever Premier League title.
Sadio Manéstruck his side ahead in the 17th minute, following neat play between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, as the Senegalese scored infront of the Kop.
On what was a huge day, there was nerves all around Anfield for updates on Manchester City.
Mané added a second goal for security, late in the second-half, but the celebrations were flattened by City being on the verge of the title, leading 4-1.
Ultimately, despite final day victory, it was all about the what-ifs, as Liverpool suffered defeat just once all season – to their title-rivals, 2-1.
The league table read a margin of one point, but in fact, it was decided by fine margins, following John Stones’ sensational goal-line clearance for Man City to deny both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, in January of that year.
