Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

It is no longer news that the Reds are planning a revamp of their attack in the summer and several names have popped up as possible options.

With Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota still not able to convince Arne Slot, the club is looking for a viable option for the No.

James’ Park and could line up for the Reds next season if the club can afford his €1oom plus transfer fee.

And now another potentially expensive option has emerged for Liverpool.

A report by Anfield Watch claims that Liverpool is interested in former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez.

The Argentina international only moved to Atletico Madrid last summer for a reported €90 million deal.

He has been a hit at the Spanish club since his move, scoring 22 goals and registering five assists so far for Diego Simeone’s men.

However, according to Anfield Watch, Alvarez could be on his way to Anfield in the summer as Liverpool remain interested in him after missing out on his signature in the summer.

Per the report, Liverpool held discussions with Man City over a potential move for Alvarez last summer, but ‘an agreement could not be found due to City’s insistence that any deal would include Luis Diaz heading to the Etihad, as well as a significant fee.”

“Liverpool weren’t against parting ways with their No7 but the deal had to work for them.

It is believed the Merseyside club valued him at closer to the £60million mark while City viewed him as a £45million asset in this proposed deal.”

“In the end, Atletico Madrid swooped in and agreed to pay an initial £65million with a further £17million in add-ons,” the report said.

Before adding that “Liverpool’s interest remains, even though it will take a bid in excess of £100million to pry him away from Atletico after just one season.”

“Internally, he is viewed as someone who could be the perfect fit for Arne Slot.

Diego Simeone is a huge fan of the Uruguayan.”
