It’s so evident that Liverpool need a new striker. When you’re playing your left winger as a striker, and you’ve got Nunez and Jota who can’t get in the team, I think Arne Slot knows he needs one. That tells a story. We all know you can’t squander the chances that we make.
I don’t want to call people out because they’ve got us here, into this position, and are on the verge of winning the league.
But I think I’d go as far as to say I think we actually need two new strikers. The last two months have shown us the deficiencies in front of goal.
When you create the chances that we did against Leicester, and other teams, but squander them! I’m a striker so it frustrates me, I’m getting a lot of my frustrations out in my column this week!
We’ve been lucky over the years, going all the way back to Roger Hunt. You look at all the strikers we’ve had over the years, we’ve always had unbelievable strikers who make the best teams pay when they get opportunities in front of goal.
But we simply haven’t done that this season since the Plymouth game. We need a new striker, we really do.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we need a centre-forward who is fighting for the Golden Boot. Where he is and how we get him is another matter.
But whatever it costs, Liverpool have to go and get him. Because unfortunately the other players at this moment in time, for whatever reason, they won’t get you that amount of goals.
Salah really needs a goal
It’s not even falling for Mohamed Salah at the moment. He’s snatching at things, his finishing has not been great.
We all go through droughts but he needs a goal big time. You can see it on his face when he misses the opportunities.
When the goal comes, it will be a special one. We know what Mo’s like. He’s our top striker, yet he’s a winger. We shouldn’t really be depending on him!
We should be depending on our number nines. Diaz is a winger too. He’s doing well as a centre-forward but he’s not a finisher. He’s not there to score goals, he’s a creator.
When you leave the likes of Nunez and Jota out, it tells you where we’re at.
Every season, Mo will score you 20+ goals. Even at his age now. But we have to have a centre-forward who does the same.
Don’t sell Elliott
I really like Harvey Elliott. I don’t want to criticise the manager but I can’t for the life of me understand why he hasn’t had more game-time. He is a game-changer.
He makes a difference and he’s still so young. He’s so talented. I just hope that he’s part of the manager’s fans going forward. He’s a Liverpool fan and he wants to stay at the club. He wants game-time.
He doesn’t want to go anywhere, I know that for an absolute fact. I’d just like to see him get more of an opportunity. Now that we’re nearly over the line, it’s an opportunity for the manager to look at him.
There will be at least four new players coming in this summer, at least four. There will be players going out too, 100%, because we balance the books. There will be a lot of money coming in.
Most of the pundits and supporters have an idea of the players who will go out. I just don’t want to see Harvey go out. I hope he stays.
But there will be at least four players who go out and at least four who come in. At least four. And that’s not including the goalkeeper we already know is coming in.
