On-loan Liverpool left-back Owen Beck was targeted for abuse from rival supporters after suffering a new hamstring problem on his comeback from injury.
Beck, who is spending the season on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers, was substituted just 13 minutes into the 1-0 defeat at Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon.
The 22-year-old left-back was making his first appearance after being sidelined for seven weeks with an initial hamstring complaint.
As he was helped from the field, Beck was targeted by Portsmouth fans who wrongly believed the player to have feigned injury, with the Wales under-21 international responding by taunting the home crowd with a "going down" gesture.
Portsmouth's victory moved them seven points clear of the drop zone.

“For the first 30 minutes, we were ready and knew it would be a fight against the opponents, and I thought we started well, but we lost Becky (Owen Beck) again, which was a big frustration," said Blackburn boss Valerien Ismael, who was appointed last month.
“Owen has a hamstring injury.
On Monday, we’ll have a scan and will have more clarity.”

When available, Beck - who has made three senior appearances for Liverpool - has been a regular for Blackburn this season having made 25 appearances.
He made headlines back in September when sent off in the Lancashire derby at Preston North End for a tackle that prompted a melee in which he was bitten by Milutin Osmajic, subsequently resulting in an eight-game ban for the Preston player.
In Beck's absence, Blackburn have struggled for form with Saturday's defeat a fifth loss in six games, a run that has seen them fall out of play-off contention for promotion to the Premier League.
