Reported Liverpool target David Hancko has been speaking about Liverpool and the chances of a transfer to Merseyside.

The Feyenoord defender was part of the Slovakia side that were unlucky to lose to England in their Euro 2024 round of 16 match-up.

The player’s agent, Branislav Jasurek, admitted that there had been contact with the Anfield club back in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Hancko himself is a massive Liverpool fan, saying in an interview that he ‘feels the most’ for Liverpool after witnessing the Mircale of Istanbul as a child.

The 26-year-old joined Feyenoord from Sparta Prague in August 2022 for a reported €6million and quickly became a key player, contributing significantly to the club’s Eredivisie title win in 2022/23.

His versatility, able to play both as a center-back and left-back, makes him an attractive option for Liverpool, especially with Joel Matip having departed the club.

Of course, there is also the link between Arne Slot having bought Hancko to Feyenoord and managed the Slovakia international for two seasons.

What did David Hancko say about Liverpool?

Speaking to Voetbal International following Slovakia’s Euro 2024 exit, Hancko revealed that he had indeed spoken to Slot since the Dutchman was announced as Liverpool manager – but no transfer would likely be forthcoming:

“I think that in three years he will be named as one of the best coaches in the world,” Hancko asserted.

“I can see that happening, because I know what he did with us and now he has the biggest platform to show that.”

“I have a lot of confidence in him and his staff.

And I don’t express that appreciation because I hope that I will go with him to Liverpool, because that is unlikely.”

“I have spoken to him a few times after the end of the season, but I don’t think they are looking for a player in my position, so I don’t think a transfer to Liverpool will happen.”

“But I wish him the best of luck, he really is a fantastic coach.”

It seems that Hancko is doing the reporting for the media, as he appears to confirm that Liverpool are not in the market for central defenders.

If that is indeed the case, it will surely confuse and perhaps anger many Liverpool fans – with many sections of the fanbase crying out for fresh legs in the heart of defence.

Hancko continued and explained what the current crop of Liverpool players can expect from Arne Slot’s methods:

“In the last two years he changed my career, in the way he taught me to play and how I look at football,” he said.

“He impressed me in training, in meetings and with his systems.

His playing style and also the videos he shows in team meetings are all so professional.”

“He always shows you what you specifically have to do when the opponent puts pressure in a certain way.”
