Liverpool discovered its Champions League last-16 opponents on Friday with the Reds set to face Paris Saint-Germain.

Arne Slot’s side already knew they would face either PSG or Benfica in the knockout phase but the draw in Nyom on Friday confirmed which of the pair Liverpool will play over two legs, along with the other seven ties.

Liverpool progressed to the last-16 after topping the Champions League league phase with 21 points from eight matches.

The top eight sides from the league phase were seeded in Friday’s draw - a cohort that includes fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Aston Villa

They were joined by the eight play-off winners, who made it to the last-16 after winning an additional two-legged knockout tie.

Manchester City - the other Premier League entry in this season’s Champions League - was dumped out in the play-off round, losing 6-3 on aggregate to Real Madrid.

Liverpool’s last-16 tie will be played over 4/5 and 11/12 March, with the dates to be confirmed later, although the second leg will be staged at Anfield.
