Liverpool made waves last summer with the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili, who as it stands is set to return to Anfield later this year.
The Georgia international was signed by the Reds after a breakout year with Valencia followed by an impressive showing at Euro 2024, with Mamardashvili now rightfully regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe.
Yet since the turn of the year, things haven’t panned out for the 24-year-old, with Mamardashvili this weekend issuing an apology to Valencia fans after making yet another mistake that led to a Real Valladolid goal.
And the admission of guilt should tell Liverpool all they need to know about what they should do with Mamardashvili in the summer with Alisson Becker still the clear no.

With Alisson enjoying his self-proclaimed best performance ever for Liverpool last week against PSG, the Brazilian international is at the top of the world with the Reds, with the 32-year-old arguably the best keeper in the world at the time of writing.
And with Mamardashvili admitting that his performances simply haven’t been good enough, a return to Liverpool this summer to compete with or even replace Alisson feels extremely farfetched at this stage in the goalkeeper’s development.
As a result, loaning out Mamardashvili for a second season could be the smartest idea for Liverpool, with the Georgia international at an awkward stage where he’s too good to be sat on the bench for the Reds yet not good enough yet to start on a weekly basis.

Indeed, this problem is something Liverpool have already identified with Mamardashvili, and after this weekend’s performance for Valencia and subsequent Instagram message, the decision should now be clear for the Anfield side on what to do with the goalkeeper.
With Valencia in a relation battle in La Liga, Liverpool would be wise to consider another club for Mamardashvili to join in the summer transfer window on loan given how highly-rated the Georgian international is.
And for Liverpool, the best option could be to keep Mamardashvili in the Premier League, a division that will allow the Reds to keep a close eye on the 24-year-old whilst also giving fans a real chance to check out their future no.

Moreover, Premier League teams will have the finances to fully cover Mamardashvili’s wages, a factor that will please Liverpool in their decision making when it comes to loaning out the shot-stopper this summer.
