Luis Diaz has spoken about how he wants to be remembered at Liverpool FC amid exit rumours.
The Colombian by all accounts has had a decent season for the Reds, registering 15 goals and 8 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
However, a 10-game goalless streak between December and February tested his resilience, coinciding with Liverpool’s dip in attacking fluidity.
His drought mirrored broader team struggles, as the Reds relied heavily on Mohamed Salah’s consistency during this period.
Despite the ever presence of the 28-year-old in the side this season, Fabrizio Romano has linked the winger away from Anfield – with sustained interest from Al Nassr and other Saudi clubs prepared to test Liverpool’s resolve this summer.
The Italian said in early April that Saudi clubs showed interest in Luis Diaz back in January, but the player opted to stay at Liverpool and concentrate on the season.
However, the Saudi interest hasn’t faded, and they are expected to return with offers this summer.
Diaz’s contract until 2027 provides negotiating leverage in a summer where the SPL will continue to try and attract Europe’s top talent.
Adding to the uncertainty surrounding Diaz’s future is historical interest from Barcelona and previous inquiries from Manchester City.
But speaking to TNT Sports Mexico after the hard-fought win over Leicester City on Sunday, the Colombian spoke about his career so far at Anfield.
When quizzed on how hearing the fans chant his name felt, he explained how he “wants to leave a mark” at the club in the future:
“It’s a source of pride to see the fans of Liverpool, one of England’s great clubs, sing for you like that, support you like that.”
“It is what I’ve always worked for,” Diaz explained.
“That’s what I want for my career, to always be remembered for my game, to leave my mark on Liverpool.”
“We’ll keep working this way so they feel comfortable and keep singing and cheering on the team, which is the most important thing.”
“I have many memories from when I was a kid,” Diaz continued?
“Because I always dreamed of winning a title with Liverpool and especially the Premier League and it’s close.”
It certainly doesn’t sound like someone in a hurry to leave Anfield.
It’s clear that the club may have to make a decision regarding Diaz come the summer, as his contract issue needs ironing out soon.
For now, the Colombian’s blend of grit and flair continues to endear him to the Anfield faithful, and a Premier League title would fit nicely with his FA Cup and two League Cup medals.
