There are reports from Spain and Colombia almost every week linking Luis Diaz with a move to Barcelona.
The Colombian international, whose contract talks with Liverpool have reportedly stalled since December, has long since been a target for the Catalan club even while he was still at Porto.
In November 2023, Barca club president Joan Laporta said on Diaz:
“At the time (January 2022) we had just arrived at the club and Liverpool beat us to it.”
“We were considering his incorporation, but we were facing an economic situation that we had to resolve and reverse.”
“I recognize that in the past, when Luis Diaz went from Porto to Liverpool, we also had a conversation with the agent, but Liverpool already had him moving forward.”
Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is also thought to be a fan of the 28-year-old, with his father previously acknowledging Díaz’s “dream” of playing for the La Liga giants:
“It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there.”
And now Diaz has spoken further on his son.
What did Luis Diaz say amid reported Barcelona interest?
Speaking to Colombian outlet Noticias Caracol, Luis Manuel Díaz revealed that the Premier League ‘is the most demanding league’:
“‘Lucho’ is a winger, an inside midfielder and still a goalscorer.”
“Leaving the Guajira, arriving in Barranquilla, making the leap to Junior, flying to Porto and there to England, is not easy.
English football is the most demanding league,” said Luis Manuel Díaz.”
Of course, playing for Barcelona in La Liga would no doubt be an easier experience for the Colombian winger.
And with Diaz turning 29, a less intensive league may extend the life of his career.
Diaz Sr also revealed that he coaches and tells his son certain things he has done wrong in a game:
“After the game, I tell him why he didn’t do something and in the next game, he applies it?
He is someone who listens, attends and applies,” he explained.
It is predicted that there will be extensive interest in the winger this summer.
