Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool will renew their European acquaintances in the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League Round of 16, with the first leg set for March 5 at the Parc des Princes and the return fixture at Anfield on March 12.
This high-stakes tie pits two of Europe’s most in-form teams against each other, with both league leaders of their respective domestic leagues.
This marks the fifth European meeting between PSG and Liverpool, with their most recent encounters occurring during the 2018–19 Champions League group stage.
In that campaign, Liverpool secured a dramatic 3–2 victory at Anfield thanks to a 90th-minute winner from Roberto Firmino.
PSG enters the tie buoyed by the return of key midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery, who resumed training on February 25 after a brief injury layoff.
Ousmane Dembélé emerges as PSG’s primary attacking threat, having scored six Champions League goals this season so far.
Arne Slot has struck a balance between confidence and caution in his pre-match comments: “At this stage, the quality of opponent is only going to be of a very high standard… PSG are top of their domestic league and enjoying a long unbeaten run.
This tells us all we need to know about the challenge”
And it seems Enrique is thinking similar ahead of next month’s fixture.
What did Luis Enrique say about Liverpool?
Speaking to French media this week, Enrique believes that both sides have a 50% chance of making it through the tie:
“I am delighted [to have drawn Liverpool].
When you look at the two teams, they are both of a very high level.
It will be interesting,” Enrique said via Get French Football News.
“When you look at the two teams, we are similar teams in terms of our desire to attack.”
“It will be a two-legged tie against two quite equal teams, even if we’re both very different.
It will be close; it is 50-50,” said the PSG manager.
The winner will face Club Brugge or Aston Villa in the quarterfinals.
The upcoming Ligue 1 clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Lille will proceed as originally scheduled, despite efforts to postpone the match.
Set for Saturday, March 1st at 9:05 pm CET, this fixture will take place just days before both clubs embark on crucial Champions League Round of 16 first-leg encounters.
Lille’s appeal to reschedule the game has been unsuccessful, leaving both teams with limited recovery time before their European commitments?
PSG is slated to host Liverpool next week Wednesday, while Lille will travel to face Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
