Luis Suarez has sent a message of support to Darwin Nunez after his high-profile miss vs Aston Villa on Wednesday.

The fallout continues with the striker’s defiant social media pledge splitting opinions and feeding growing speculation about his Anfield future.

As scrutiny intensifies over his erratic finishing, multiple reports suggest the Uruguayan’s three-year spell at Liverpool could end this summer.

With Liverpool locked in a 2-2 stalemate in the 67th minute at Villa Park, Dominik Szoboszlai squared the ball to Nunez, who faced an open goal from seven yards.

The 25-year-old fired over the bar—a miss Robbie Fowler described as “one of the worst we’ve seen this year” and emblematic of a player who “doesn’t think about the game enough.”

Post-match analysis focused not just on the miss but on Nunez’s subsequent body language.

Arne Slot openly criticized his demeanor, stating: “It got too much in his head… he wasn’t the usual Darwin that works his arse off.”

Following the game, Liverpool’s No.9 posted this message on social media:

“I wasn’t the best three weeks ago nor am I the worst now.

You will never see me lower my arms.”

“I’m going to give everything until the last day I have to be here in Liverpool!

Resilience!”

Now Suarez has offered a message of support.

What did Luis Suarez say to Darwin Nunez?

Taking to X, the former Liverpool and Barcelona man replied to Nunez’s tweet with a message of support:

“Of course GOALSCORER, I love you that way.

Let’s go up!”

Suarez has never been shy to support Darwin Nunez publicly or otherwise.

Speaking back in October last year about the 2024 Copa America, Suarez revealed that Nunez can be sensitive at times and revealed how Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa even made him cry at the tournament:

“I saw Darwin crying, and I told him: ‘You are here because of your own merit, because of how hard you work, you are a goalscorer and you are the best,” Luis Suarez began.

“‘You have to continue like this, forget what others say.

For me Darwin needs affection, to be supported and containment, not other things.

Hopefully Nunez is receiving some of the affection and support that Suarez thinks he needs at Liverpool amid a difficult spell for the 25-year-old.
