Eight days before Liverpool's trip to the Etihad Stadium, Erling Haaland has provided Manchester City with a 'major' injury worry.

"As he goes to close someone down it seemed like his knee gave way, it sort of jarred.

He didn’t look comfortable, shaking his head, Pep Guardiola put his head in his hands."

The worst possible outcome for the 24-year-old even came to Merson's mind, as he added: "It looked a major worry, the first thing that comes into your head there is ACL."

But following the scare, Haaland managed to get up and without help walked off, substituted by Guardiola who was not taking any chances even with two minutes of the match remaining.

Strangely, it is not Man City who are battling closest for the title against Slot's league leaders but rather Arsenal, who are four points behind having played one extra match following a 2-0 win at Leicester City at lunchtime.

Man City themselves have a distraction before next weekend, travelling to Real Madrid in their Champions League play-off tie.

Guardiola's side find themselves one goal behind on aggregate after losing the first leg on home soil.

Amid this possible injury to Haaland, they also witnessed new £59m striker signing Omar Marmoush get off the mark with three goals against Newcastle.
