Manchester City have been handed a big injury worry ahead of the weekend’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.

While Liverpool take on Aston Villa in the Premier League, Man City are taking on Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League play-off.

The Real Madrid man lobbed the ball over Ederson to give Real a real foothold on the clash.

It got worse for City just a minute later when defender John Stones was forced off the pitch with an injury.

The 30-year-old only returned from a foot injury last month and went down when challenging Vinicius Jr for the ball.

Replays showed that there was no contact between the two players, with Stones immediately waving to the bench, indicating that he needed to come off.

He was replaced by Nathan Ake, another player who has seen his season impacted by injuries.

The injury will mean that Stones is unlikely to be available for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool (4.30pm kick-off), in a game that could be crucial for the Reds’ title hopes.

He was only deemed fit enough to be named on the bench for the clash against Real Madrid, and didn't take part in the pre-match warm-up.

It’s the first game in either the Premier League or the Champions League that the striker has not started in so far this season.
