Manchester City have been handed a fresh fitness concern days before they face Liverpool in the Premier League.
Liverpool travel to the Etihad this weekend to face Pep Guardiola’s struggling side.
City will enter the tie a long way off Liverpool, who sit at the top of the league standings.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been poor by their high standards this season.
They have already suffered seven losses this campaign and are more than a dozen points behind the Reds.
Injuries have been one of the major reasons they have struggled this season.
Rodri, Ruben Dias, Jones Stones, Nathan Ake, Oscar Bobb, Jeremy Doku, Matheus Nunes, Ederson, and most recently, Manuel Akanji have all had spells on the sidelines this season.
Akanji, for example, will miss the weekend clash, having recently suffered an injury that required surgery.
However, it appears that the Switzerland international may be joined on the sidelines by another City defender.
Manchester City defender injured vs Real Madrid
Manchester City defender John Stones suffered another injury blow after being taken off in the early stages of his side’s Champions League play-off second leg against Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury during the build-up to Kylian Mbappe’s opening goal in the game?
His injury did not appear to be caused by any contact with a Madrid player.
A stretcher was called for but Stones walked off unaided, with Nathan Ake replacing him within seven minutes.
Stones is now a major doubt for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool, as he could be seen shaking his head as he headed straight down the tunnel.
The England international has been badly affected by injuries of late and has only managed 20 appearances in all competitions this season.
