Fulham’s win over Liverpool at Craven Cottage has shaken up the Premier League.
The Reds had the chance to extend their lead at the top, but a series of mistakes in defence left them with nothing to show for their efforts.
After a strong start, Liverpool faltered and ultimately fell short, losing 3-2.
While the result was a tough one for Liverpool, it was a moment of pride for Fulham.
The win had significant meaning for Marco Silva and his side, especially after a tough run of results.
Silva was quick to express just how important this victory was for his team.
What did Marco Silva say about the win against Liverpool?
Speaking to BBC’s MOTD, the Fulham boss acknowledged the importance of the result beyond just the opponent.
“It was a great, great performance from us, a big one.
Not just because it’s Liverpool but because we needed to bounce back after the last two games,” Silva said.
He was pleased with his team’s first-half performance, admitting that they played at a very high level.
“Our first half was very, very good,” Silva said.
“We showed great organisation and commitment.”
“We were clearly the best team on the pitch in the first half.”
Despite a second-half response from Liverpool, Silva felt his team deserved the win.
“In the second half, there was a good reaction from Liverpool which we expected, and our energy went down a little bit, which was to be expected because it was so high in the first half.”
“Overall though, we deserved the three points.”
Silva also singled out some key performers.
On Rodrigo Muniz’s goal, he said, “He’s a proper quality striker… he is growing so quick… he is very high quality for a number nine.”
Silva also praised Calvin Bassey’s potential, saying, “Calvin has all the skills to be a top central defender… now he has to be more consistent.”
Looking ahead, Silva remained grounded despite the big win.
“The aim was to be in the top half of the table at this stage of the season.”
“We got three points?
I want everybody really grounded,” he added.
For Liverpool, it was a disappointing result, but Fulham’s determination and quality on the day showed just how competitive the Premier League can be.
