Arsenal have been looking for a long-term midfield solution, and it seems they have finally found their man.
After missing out on key targets in previous windows, the Gunners have moved quickly to secure one of Spain’s most highly-rated players.
Liverpool had shown interest in the midfielder last summer, but he turned down the move.
Since then, his stock has only risen, making him a target for top clubs across Europe.
Real Madrid were also linked with him as they continue to build their midfield for the future.
However, Arsenal have acted fast to reportedly get the deal over the line.
Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal transfer fee revealed – deal done
According to journalist Óscar Badallo who spoke to Marca Radio, Basque midfielder Martin Zubimendi is “on his way to Arsenal”.
The deal is reportedly done, with all parties reaching an agreement.
Zubimendi has been linked with big moves in the past, including Barcelona last year.
Badallo referenced this by saying, “There’s no need to dwell on it any further.
Last year, Barcelona was the name of the game, this year, Real Madrid…”
But it is Arsenal who have secured the signing.
The transfer fee is expected to be €60m, which is seen as the absolute minimum for a player of his quality.
Journalist Yon Cuezva added that Real Sociedad want the deal done quickly, explaining, “They’re asking for €60m and for it to be done quickly so he can say goodbye on the pitch.”
“The idea is Arsenal, unless Real Madrid comes in strong to take him.”
Liverpool had previously considered paying a similar amount, but Arsenal have now taken the lead.
With the deal close to completion, Zubimendi looks set to join Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of the summer window.
