Liverpool summer target Martin Zubimendi is set to sign for Arsenal(Image: Getty Images)
Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who was Liverpool's top transfer target last summer.
The Reds had agreed a deal with the Spanish club, but Zubimendi opted to stay in the Basque Country.
However, it appears that the 25-year-old may now be heading to the Premier League after all to join Arsenal.
According to the Mail, Arsenal have been working on a deal to sign Zubimendi since the summer, with Mikel Arteta keen to bring in the Spanish midfielder.
The deal is reportedly worth £51m, which is the release clause in Zubimendi's contract.
The report suggests that the deal is "virtually completed" and that Zubimendi is likely to join Arsenal next summer.

There is no indication Liverpool showed renewed interest in signing Zubimendi this month, particularly given Ryan Gravenberch's impressive performances in a deeper role this season.
Last month, Zubimendi explained his decision to turn down Liverpool's offer to El Diario Vasco.
"They were uncomfortable moments for me, because, as is normal, people talk a lot," he said when asked about the speculation surrounding his future.
It is true that then there are those thoughts, but I tell you that I tried to be, although it may seem untrue, as selfish as possible, thinking about myself first and foremost, the best thing was to stay."
Zubimendi added: "It didn't even occur to me to read anything.
