Max Verstappen, a Formula One racer, has made an intriguing observation on Jurgen Klopp and his new position at the Red Bull group.

By now, most Liverpool fans are aware that the German accepted a new role as Red Bull’s Global head of Football.

Klopp’s appointment, which begins on January 1, 2025, marks his return to football in a strategic capacity, overseeing Red Bull’s international network of clubs.

This includes prominent teams such as RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, and even a club in France’s Ligue 2 if reports are to be believed.

In his new role, Klopp will not be involved in the day-to-day management of individual clubs but will focus on providing strategic guidance, mentoring coaches, and contributing to the global scouting and player development systems across the Red Bull football ecosystem?

Klopp’s leadership is expected to enhance Red Bull’s ambitious project, utilizing his vast experience to foster a more cohesive and forward-thinking soccer organization?

This appointment comes amid speculation that Klopp might eventually take on the role of managing the German national team, with reports suggesting that his contract may include an exit clause to pursue that opportunity in the future?

However, Klopp has downplayed these rumors, expressing his excitement about the unique challenges presented by the Red Bull project.

What did Max Verstappen say about Jurgen Klopp?

The iconic F1 racer is known for his interest in football and although he supports Manchester United, he has already revealed he is friendly with compatriot Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking at Sky Sports last week ahead of the United States GP – which Verstappen came third in – the Dutchman revealed that he knew for a ‘long time’ that Klopp was in talks:

“I knew for a long time already that they were talking and that it was close to being signed,” he said.

“I think it’s great.

Red Bull are investing a lot in, also in football.

With the teams they have already, there’s a lot of talent which has come through already”

“With someone like Jurgen in charge from the top, he has a lot of experience and has managed a lot of clubs?

It’s great for the organisation,” Verstappen concluded.

The former Liverpool boss has recieved some criticism for taking the role in his home country, especially from the likes of Mainz who feel betrayed by joining a ‘coporate’ outfit like Red Bull.

Dortmund fans also expressed disappointment, accusing him of aligning with a commercial entity like Red Bull, which contrasts with the traditional community-focused values that Dortmund champions.

Some see the move as a departure from Klopp’s prior image as a coach who prioritized grassroots football.
