Merseyrail has warned passengers that train services will be busy today as Liverpool fans gather for today's big match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Over 60,000 fans are expected to fill Anfield for the match, knowing that a draw or better means Arne Slot's side will win the league.

The pubs and streets around the area are bustling as supporters soak up the pre-game atmosphere, with kick-off scheduled for 4.30pm.



Bars in the city centre are also packed as fans prepare to watch the game, hoping to celebrate their team winning a second league title in five years.

With so many fans in both the city centre and at Anfield, Merseyside's travel network will be tested to its limits.

In an update issued on social media earlier today, Merseyrail said: "We expect train services to be busy today due to the Liverpool home game.

"Customers should allow more time to complete their journey and check our website or X page for the latest service updates."

Some customers took to X to voice their concerns about the frequency of train services today.

In response to the Merseyrail update, one X user said: "So why have you still put trains on every half hour?

Are they at least going to be 8 carriage services all day?"

Another added: "Trains every 30 minutes.

Bend over for the horse racing though."

Merseyrail responded by reassuring customers that trains operating on the Southport line will have eight carriages throughout the day.

The spokesperson said: "Services across our network are running to the usual Sunday timetable today and thankfully all services on the Southport line are formed as 8 cars in anticipation of increased passenger numbers."
