Mohamed Salah has told Liverpool chiefs he is better than ever after his influential display shot down Manchester City to help the Reds close on the title.

He also assisted team-mate Dominik Szoboszlai to secure a 2-0 win and move Liverpool 11 points clear of Arsenal.

He has a total of 40 goal contributions in total this season and has now scored and assisted in 11 games in total, the most by any player since Lionel Messi in 2014-15.

Salah has been unable to agree terms with the club on a new deal and has continuously claimed this will be his final season on Merseyside amid links to the Saudi Pro League.

After the City game, Salah admitted it might be his best season for Liverpool because the team are now pushing for the title.

Asked if he's 'better than ever' in an interview post-match by Sky Sports, he said: "I don't know.

Salah provided a goal and an assist to send a message to Liverpool chiefs amid his contract stalemate.

We try to win each game."

Salah's goal came from an assist from Szoboszlai - who was set up by Salah for Liverpool's second goal - but the Hungarian joked that it wasn't the best pass from him as the team tried a unique training-ground routine.

"It was not the best assist I gave to him!" he said.
