Salah, 32, has enjoyed arguably his best ever season this term, scoring 28 goals and registering 18 assists in the Premier League alone.
The Egyptian's scintillation form has meant that he's been top of the leaderboard, which takes into account the most goals scored in a European domestic league, for much of the campaign.
But now Salah has been overtaken hours after Liverpool won the Premier League title, despite him scoring in Sunday's crowning 5-1 victory at home to Tottenham.
Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is the new frontrunner after netting four goals against Boavista on Sunday night.
After bagging his seventh hat-trick of the season, Gyokeres added a fourth goal in stoppage time, taking his tally to 38 goals in 30 league games in Portugal's top flight.
That kind of output has put him on the radar of a number of European giants, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona.
Salah is narrowly behind on 56, despite scoring 10 fewer league goals than Gyokeres.
That's because goals which are scored in the Premier League are considered more valuable than those scored in the Primeira Liga.

The plus side for Salah is that Gyokeres only has three more league games to add to his tally, including a title decider away to Benfica on Sunday, May 10.

Salah has never won the Golden Shoe before, just like the Ballon d'Or which he's also no longer the favourite to win.
