Huge news broke on Wednesday in regards to Mohamed Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool.
Liverpool’s ‘Egyptian King’ is producing incredible numbers during the 2024-25 campaign and is still on track to have his best season in a Red shirt yet.
In April, Salah has notched up an insane total of fifty-four goal contributions this season, whilst leading the Premier League goals and assists charts by some margin.
When it comes to his current contract, it is now looking increasingly likely that the forward will finally come to an agreement with the Liverpool hierachy to renew his current deal, signed in 2022.
As things stand, Salah currently earns an amount of £350,000 per-week and it has been reliably reported that the figure will remain the same.
He is adored by the Liverpool faithful and this extremely positive news comes as a relief to all supporters, after doubts over the Egyptian potentially leaving the club for free, this June.
We will be the discussing the legacy that Mohamed Salah has created during his eight seasons at Liverpool and how much of a morale booster this will be, for the supporters and the club as a whole.
THE STORY SO FAR
Liverpool were laughed at when they completed the signing of the then AS Roma winger in 2017, just three years on from his first Premier League stint at Chelsea, that turned out to be extremely underwhelming.
In 2014, a then 22-year-old Salah, scored just one goal for the Blues and needed loan spells to Fiorentina and Roma in Italy, to kickstart his career.
Fast forward three years, and Liverpool secured the signing of the Egyptian for just £34million from Roma, after scoring thirty-four goals in eighty-three appearances, having made the loan move from Chelsea permanent.
In Salah’s first campaign at Anfield, he went onto have a sensational season, tearing Premier League and European defences apart each week.
He came away with the Premier League’s Golden Boot award, smashing the record of thirty-two goals in a single season, formerly set by Luis Suarez (2013-14) and Robin Van Persie at Manchester United (2012-13), with thirty-two.
Salah’s record has since been broken by Erling Haaland with thirty-six goals.
(2022-23)
The Egyptian ended his first season at Liverpool with an incredible SIXTY goal contributions, forty-four goals and sixteen assists, writing his name in headlines and nobody was aware that the best was yet to come.
During his eight-season stay with the Reds, Salah has become a one-time UEFA Champions League winner, on the brink of becoming a two-time Premier League winner, lifted two League Cups, one FA Cup, UEFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
This season, Mohamed Salah is on another level and has become a genuine contender for the 2025 Ballon D’or award.
The Egyptian has racked up thirty-two goals and twenty-two assists domestically and in Europe, and seven more games still remain, so that tally is expected to increase.
Alongside his goal contributions, Salah has continued to set record-after-record including the climb into third on Liverpool’s all-time top scorers with 273 from 394 appearances.
He also sits joint-fifth in the Premier League charts, scoring 184, levelling Sergio Aguero’s time at Manchester City.
There has been a drop-off in recent matches from the Egyptian, with him goalless in his last four outings in all competitions, enduring his worst run since joining the club.
Arne Slot commented on Salah’s recent form, following Liverpool’s most recent loss to Fulham last weekend:
“Maybe he should see [criticism] as a compliment because his numbers were not normal.”
“The good thing about Mo is he knows what kind of player he is.
Mo will show up again, I don’t worry about that.”
This mini drought of four matches being labelled as Salah’s worst in a Red shirt to date, just shows the astronomical levels of goalscoring he has showed throughout the past eight years.
Liverpool have seven more league games to play, and the Egyptian needs just five more goal contributions to level his best season in England, six to surpass.
CONTRACT EXTENSION A NO BRAINER
Liverpool’s decision to reward Mohamed Salah with a new deal, is a no brainer for all parties.
For the supporters, the news has came as a huge relief, with doubt emerging the longer the saga had dragged on.
It has been widely reported that Salah’s extension will be for two further years, taking him to 2027 and at that stage the Liverpool forward will be thirty-four years old, turning thirty-five.
Not many clubs will be seen rewarding their veteran players with bumper new contracts post-thirty, but Mohamed Salah is one of the very few that can be classed as an exception in this case.
The Egyptian still remains at an elite fitness level for a thirty-two year old athlete, as he continues to set the Premier League and rest of the world alight, season-to-season.
In seven out of eight seasons, has Salah reached the twenty-goal mark which highlights his world-class talent on show and this campaign, he has hit thirty-goals for the fifth time since debut in 2017.
Salah is well-respected by his Liverpool teammates, having been handed a role in the player’s senior leadership group which consists of the captain, Virgil van Dijk, vice captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, and Andy Robertson alongside him.
HUNGRY FOR MORE
Mohamed Salah’s impending new contract expresses his determination to stay and fight for more trophies at the top level of football.
The Egyptian has been the receiver of lucrative financial packages from the Saudi Pro League to take his career down a different route, but he has rejected those to agree far lesser terms with Liverpool.
The Reds are about to secure their second Premier League title and Salah has played a vital role, but he won’t want this trophy to be his last.
Despite being dumped out of the Champions League, FA Cup and losing the Carabao Cup Final, Liverpool and especially Mo Salah, will be hungrier and more determined than ever to bring more success to the football club in years to come.
The Egyptian had been guided by Jürgen Klopp for seven seasons and by agreeing to sign a new contract following an outstanding first season from Arne Slot, it feels as if he has full trust towards the new manager.
As Mohamed Salah looks set to wrap up an eighth season at Liverpool, there is no denying that he has already reached ‘legend’ territory and is in the conversation for being one of the club’s greatest ever players.
This proposed new contract will only hope to elevate Salah’s game even further, as well as his competitive nature to continue competing for major honours.
