Mohamed Salah’s 2024/25 campaign has thrust him firmly into the Ballon d’Or conversation, with the Liverpool forward producing arguably the most complete season of his career.
The Egyptian’s consistency defies age (32), with Opta noting he’s the first player in Europe’s top leagues to achieve 40+ goal contributions (41) by February since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2014/15.
Salah’s numbers this season border on the surreal:
30 goals and 21 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
25 Premier League goals (1st in Golden Boot race) and 16 assists (1st overall).
Direct goal involvement in 72% of Liverpool’s league matches?
11 League games with both a goal and assist—breaking his own record and surpassing Lionel Messi’s 2014/15 mark (10) for Barcelona
While Salah’s individual brilliance is undeniable, manager Arne Slot insists team achievements remain pivotal to Ballon d’Or aspirations:
“It’s a great challenge for us and Mo
If we succeed, his chances become far better.”
Slot highlighted Salah’s contribution beyond traditional forward metrics, praising his “outstanding defensive work-rate” in Liverpool’s 2–0 win over Manchester City.
But it seems that is not been all smooth sailing for Mohamed Salah on Merseyside despite his all-timer Premier League performance.
What did Mohamed Salah admit about his Liverpool experience?
The 32-year-old sat down with a Liverpool icon Steve McManaman to discuss his feelings on the Ballon D’or, Liverpool future, and many other things in a wide-ranging interview.
McManaman quizzed “Mo, how is life at Liverpool at the moment, you’re enjoying playing at Liverpool?”
Salah replied: “Eight years here almost, so yeah, everything is fine.”
“What’s your focus on at the moment, are you still enjoying training, you still enjoying being around?” the Egyptian was probed.
“Not in training, but in games yeah,” Salah admitted.
But then followed up:
“Honestly, to be here for eight years is something I don’t take for granted, playing for a top club like Liverpool, fighting for every trophy every year for Liverpool is incredible.”
It does come as a surprise that he is not enjoying training too much at the moment, as he is no stranger to posting very happy-looking images of himself at the AXA on social media.
But it could also just be some mid-season fatigue, as there is little time for training as Liverpool’s grueling schedule continues as they prepare for their fifth Premier League fixture in just over two weeks.
Mohamed Salah has been a constant presence throughout this intense period.
