Mohamed Salah will be delighted to claim the second Premier League winners' medal of his career - but the Egyptian could well have had three by now had the rules been different.

The 32-year-old forward won his first title in 2020 and has now added another to his collection this season after Liverpool's 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham.

Salah has been front and centre of Liverpool's success this season after netting 28 Premier League goals this season to lead the team's title charge, netting once again versus Tottenham on Sunday.

And after signing a new deal at Liverpool to put questions over his future to bed, Salah will be hoping to add even more silverware to his resume, but he might feel hard done by that he doesn't have a trio of Premier League medals.

When he joined Chelsea in the 2013-14 season, he played a total of 11 times as the team came third.

The following season they won the league under Jose Mourinho, but he missed out on the medal because he only played three times in the league.

Players need at least five appearances to claim a medal, which saw Salah miss out, but he's not the first high-profile player to have been snubbed despite being part of a team's title success.

Gary Neville famously missed out on a medal twice during his career, having only featured once during the 1993-94 season for Manchester United, when at the time 10 was the magic number.

At the other end of his career, Neville had only played four times in the 2009-10 campaign before retiring half way through the season - meaning he ended his footballing days with eight medals instead of a possible ten.

His former Manchester United team-mate Owen Hargreaves has also endured his share of agony with Premier League medals after being excluded three times during his career.

He only claimed one Premier League medal from the 2007-08 season - and also had a Champions League one from the same season.

Frustratingly, the following year the Premier League would change the rules to allow players to claim a medal by playing just five games.

Chelsea have also had their share of players left disappointed after a number of Premier league title victories.

However, he did redeem himself by returning to Stamford Bridge and winning two winners' medals in 2014-15 and 2016-17.

The same thing happened to Micah Richards in 2013-14, when Manuel Pellegrini inspired City to win the title - though Richards struggled with form and injuries to make only two appearances in the league.

He won't have any regrets, though, after claiming his medal from the 2011-12 season that saw him play 29 games as a huge part of the team's first Premier League triumph under Roberto Mancini.

Clubs are handed 40 medals to distribute to stars and attentions will now turn to which Liverpool players will get one and who will miss out.
