Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk couldn’t help but respond to Jamie Carragher as they reflected on Liverpool’s win over Manchester City.

The pair of course played their part as the Reds extended their lead in the Premier League thanks to a 2-0 win over the defending champions at Anfield.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Salah mean guided Arne Slot’s side to an 18th win of the season, which propels them nine points clear at the top of the table.

Not only that, but Liverpool not sits 11 points clear of City, whose grasp on the title race is slipping further out of their hands as they drop to fifth, having slumped to a sixth defeat in their last seven games.

There was little doubt about the result at Anfield, with two of Liverpool’s talismans once again at their best.

Salah added yet another goal and assist to his already impressive tally, while Van Dijk was unbeatable at the back as Erling Haaland barely had a sniff throughout the game.

It was Salah that ended up winning the man of the match award from Sky Sports’ Gary Neville, with Van Dijk presenting him with the award afterward.

With Carragher also on punditry duty though, the pair were curious to know who made the decision.

“So who picked him?” Van Dijk asked when told Salah would be getting the award.

Having been informed it was Neville, the defender handed the prize over while quipping: “I’m surprised that Carragher didn’t give it to you.”

Salah responded: “No, he wouldn’t give it to me.” The Liverpool forward almost certainly referencing the former defender’s comments last week.

Carragher slammed Salah after the 32-year-old revealed he is still waiting to receive a new contract offer from the club, while also admitting he is “more out than in” at the moment.

Carragher branded him “selfish” for making the comments in the build-up to a big week for the Reds as they prepared to come up against Real Madrid and City.

Salah’s comments on this occasion though were taken in good humor by Carragher, who responded: "I'll see him in the car park!", in reference to fellow pundit Roy Keane’s exchange with a fan at Ipswich the week before.
