Those goals mean that Salah has already broken the Fantasy Premier League record for points scored in a season - smashing his own previous best with nine games still to go this term.

He has already racked up 306 points this season, three more than his previous best.

The brace also means that Salah has now scored or assisted a goal in 13 of Liverpool's 14 Premier League games at Anfield this term.

In that run, the forward has scored or assisted in their last 12 home matches in a row.

That run stretches back to Liverpool's only league defeat of the season against Nottingham Forest back in September.

Those 12-straight games mean that Salah is now closing in on more history.

Thierry Henry achieved a similar record for goal involvements in home games in the 2002/03 campaign.

Meanwhile Alan Shearer achieved it twice - enjoying a 13-game run in 1995/96 and a 15-game run in 1996/97.

It means that Salah must now score or assist in his next three home Premier League games to match the Newcastle legend's record.

The 32-year-old was on hand to save Liverpool on a nervy afternoon at Anfield.

It means that the forward's stunning campaign continues

Facing Southampton, Will Smallbone shocked fans by giving the Saints the lead going into the break.

Darwin Nunez was able to draw the game level just after the break, before Salah burst into action.

A penalty after 54 minutes put the Reds ahead, before Salah struck again two minutes from time to earn a 3-1 win.

As well as moving Liverpool 16 points clear at the top of the table for the time being, it was a game that saw Salah's own numbers bolstered.

Salah's brace takes his tally to 32 goals for the season, while he's also provided 20 assists in 41 games so far this term.

With an overall tally 184 goals in the Premier League, it means that Salah is now joint-fifth on the all-time scorers list alongside Sergio Aguero.

Now with 44 goals and assists this term, Salah has also equaled the record for end-product set by Henry in 2002/03 and Erling Haaland in 2022/23.

Next up for Liverpool is the decisive Champions League last-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday.

They then head to Wembley on Sunday where they face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final in the hope of winning their first silverware of the campaign.
