It was not too long ago that news outlets were touting the possibility of Omar Marmoush joining Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.
The now former Eintracht Frankfurt man had a breakout start to his 2024/25 season with Eintracht Frankfurt.
And it was no surprise that he was linked to both of the preeminent Premier League clubs of the last half-decade – and ended up signing for one of them.
Marmoush scored 15 league goals in the first half of the 2024–25 season, setting a new club record for the most goals in the Hinrunde (first half of the season) by a Frankfurt player, surpassing Theofanis Gekas’ record of 14 goals in the 2010–11 season.
Across all competitions, Marmoush recorded 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 matches, making him one of the most productive strikers in Europe’s top five leagues.
It’s then no wonder that Pep Guardiola’s side forked over an initial fee of €70 million- €75 million for his services.
Some reports suggest the total value could reach €80 million including potential bonuses.
And now Mohamed Salah has spoken on his compatriot ahead of the clash.
What did Mohamed Salah say about Omar Marmoush?
Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Sky Germany, Liverpool’s No.11 revealed that he has exchanged a few messages with Marmoush since he made the switch to the Etihad.
It seemed some slightly lazy links with Liverpool and Marmoush before the January window, seemingly hinging on the fact that Salah himself was Egyptian.
When quizzed on whether he was happy Marmoush made the move, Salah answered:
“Yes, of course.
Hopefully, there will soon be many, many [Egyptian] players at the highest level.
We have our culture, we have a lot of players – a lot of talented players.”
“They could play at the highest level, but we just need to change our mentality a little bit and adapt to European culture.
I’m very happy for Omar and hope that many other players will join us.”
On his relationship with the new City signing in particular, Salah revealed that he will be there for Marmoush even if they are on opposite sides of a rivalry:
“It’s good, he’s like a little brother.
Our relationship is good.”
