Mohamed Salah has revealed his opening goal in the 2-0 win over Manchester City actually came from a Liverpool error.
Liverpool took the lead after 14 minutes when Dominik Szoboszlai flicked the ball into the path of Salah to score at the Etihad, with the finish flying after taking a deflection off Nathan Ake.
It was a pivotal moment but one that was more by accident than design, Salah relieved post-match.
I’m kidding,” he told Sky Sports.
Szoboszlai, also being interviewed, added: “We just said it was not the best assist.
Finally, he [Salah] could also find me.
It has not happened all the time but I’m happy to score and give him an assist,” the Liverpool midfielder added with a joke.
Szoboszlai played in a unique role alongside Curtis Jones as floating no.10 at the Etihad, and it worked with devastating effect as the former provided a goal and an assist.
“That was the plan, we played with two 10s and as Mo said, they managed the game almost 90 percent.
But in the end the result is for us and we are happy to take the three points home.”
