Mohamed Salah took centre stage as Egypt beat Sierra Leone in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday night.

The 32-year-old played the full 90 minutes to help Egypt make it five wins and a draw from six qualification matches and put themselves in pole position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

But despite failing to find the back of the net, Salah was treated to a hero's welcome in Cario, Egypt, on Wednesday night.

Salah's superstar status in his homeland was underlined by a series of pictures he uploaded to his Instagram after the game, which showed a ton of supporters trying to take photographs of the forward on their mobile phones.

Following Egypt's win over Sierra Leone, Salah will return to Merseyside to prepare for Liverpool's Premier League clash against Everton on Tuesday.

The Reds are currently 12 points clear of second place Arsenal and know if they win five more games, they will be crowned Premier League champions for the second time in five years.

If the Reds are to win the Premier League this season, it could be the Egyptian's last major honour on Merseyside, given that he is in the final three months of his contract and has yet to agree on an extension with the Anfield hierarchy.

Liverpool have nine Premier League matches left to play this season.

Arne Slot's side round off the campaign at home to Crystal Palace on May 25th, which could prove to be the final outing at Anfield for a number of Reds players.

Speaking to Sky Sports last month, Salah admitted that this season could be his last at the club.

"Honestly, it's in my head.

Until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it,” he told Sky Sports.

Hopefully we just win the league and will see what will happen."

As well as Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the end of the season.
