Liverpool strolled to a relatively comfortable 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds have had a poor record at the Etihad Stadium over the last decade, but put a stop to that with a handsome victory.

As he usually has been in recent times, Mohamed Salah was the key man for Liverpool.

Salah broke two more Premier League records after grabbing himself yet another goal and assist on Sunday.

The 32-year-old has been the best player in the division all season long and has been a thorn in Pep Guardiola’s side many times over years.

And after watching the Egyptian play a key part in yet another defeat for his team, Guardiola said that he actually saw something different from Salah on Sunday.

Gary Neville was amazed by what he saw from Salah at the Etihad.

Liverpool’s No.11 was the best player on the pitch without a shadow of a doubt.

One thing which has allowed Salah to continue – and even better – his goal scoring antics this season is that Arne Slot seems to have given him license to reduce his defensive duties.

Given his slightly advancing years, Slot has clearly allowed his star man to lighten the workload going back towards his own goal.

This has meant Salah staying closer to the goal where he can do damage.

But according to Guardiola, Salah was actually more like his old self on Sunday.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the Spanish manager said he spotted Mo putting in more defensive work than usual against his team.

“We have good wingers,” said Pep, when asked if he targeted the Liverpool full-backs.

“They defend inside and Salah defended today much, much more than the previous games where he stayed more up front.

“I know the people don’t believe it and I know when we have played really good and today was a really good performance.”

It was noticeable that Salah was deeper than he has been at times this season.

His help was needed on the right side of the defence, where Trent Alexander-Arnold struggled at times against Jeremy Doku.

But with Liverpool already 2-0 up, all Salah wanted to do was make sure the team kept their noses in front.

Besides, Mo was still a threat going forward, with City knowing they couldn’t allow the Egyptian King any time on the break.

Salah is the best player in the league right now.
