Conor Bradley made history with Northern Ireland on Tuesday as he captained them to a 5-0 win over Bulgaria.

The Liverpool right-back was given the Northern Ireland captain’s armband last Friday.



He captained Michael O’Neill’s side for the first time in a goalless draw against Belarus last Saturday.

Bradley’s second game as team captain was even more unique, with Northern Ireland scoring five past Belarus to push them to the top of their UEFA Nations League C table.

Two first-half goals from Isaac Price and a Dimitar Mitov own goal put the home side in control.

Price completed his hat-trick on 81 minutes before Josh Magennis completed the historic rout with a late fifth for Northern Ireland.

It was the first time the hosts had scored five times in a game since 1995.

And while the focus was understandably on hat trick hero Isaac Price after the game, there was also a lot of praise for captain Conor Bradley.

Belfast Live gave Bradley a 7/10 rating for his performance and wrote:

‘Led by example again and unlucky not to get a goal.’

Meanwhile, the Belfast Telegraph also gave him a 7/10 with the comments:

‘Proud captain once again, the Liverpool man is a joy to watch when he’s bursting forward with pace?

Quiet game by his own high standards but still a class act.’

Having secured an unbeaten start to his tenure as Northern Ireland captain, Bradley will hope that his side can continue their brilliant form when they face Belarus at home in November.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old will hope to play a part in Liverpool’s match against Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.
