Liverpool’s Champions League defeat against PSG this week highlighted the need for change in the Reds forward line.
Not only did Liverpool’s attack look stale and sluggish for much of the tie, PSG’s showed them how it is done.
With pace, two-footedness and goal threat, Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hopefully gave a glimpse into the future for Liverpool.
The Reds are reportedly working on bringing in some additions up front this summer, with the central striker seemingly the most urgently required.
But it’s also true that the Liverpool squad could perhaps do with something different out wide, as well.
Luis Diaz has been poor of late, scoring just once across 18 appearances.
And with Diaz’s future up in the air this summer, journalist David Ornstein has assessed whether the Reds could come back in for Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon.

Diaz has been pushing for a new contract at Liverpool for a little while now.
With two years left on his deal this summer, it feels like crunch time.
That was the question posed to Ornstein during a Q&A with fans for The Athletic: will Diaz push to leave and who could replace him if he does.

“Amid all the focus on MS, VVD and TAA [Salah, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold], this is one of lesser-mentioned unknowns at Anfield but still hugely important.
“As we know, Liverpool looked at Anthony Gordon before the June 30 PSR deadline but I don’t know if that will be revisited,” Ornstein adds.
“They will naturally have a number of other options, too, if something needs to be activated.”
Rewind back to the middle of the season, and most Liverpool supporters would probably have been in favour of Diaz being handed a new contract.

However, with his form having tailed off poorly, the Colombian could now be a prime candidate to be sold.
Liverpool could do with a little more verve and unpredictability from their attack, and although this could simply mean Cody Gakpo stepping up to be the permanent first choice, it feels like Arne Slot wants two options out there.
In that respect, a move for Gordon would not be a surprise at all.
