Eddie Howe appears set to be backed by Newcastle United in the summer transfer window(Image: Getty Images)
Newcastle United will reportedly be able to spend as much as £100million in the summer transfer window and could potentially compete with Liverpool in the market.
The Reds have barely made a signing since appointing Arne Slot last year, but there is an expectation they will be more active ahead of next season.
However, it appears they are not alone, with Newcastle reputedly receiving the green light from their owners, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia - the Public Investment Fund (PIF) - to refresh their squad.
They did not make a single signing during the winter transfer window, much like Liverpool.
That was despite sanctioning the sale of Miguel Almiron and letting Lloyd Kelly leave on loan to Juventus.
ChronicleLive is now reporting that Newcastle will be able to spend this summer following talks with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan this week.
The report, published on Wednesday morning, just hours before Newcastle play Liverpool at Anfield, says that Howe sat around the table with high profile figures from the club's Saudi-backers including Al-Rumayyan, sporting director Paul Mitchell and CEO Darren Eales this week to discuss plans moving into the summer.
Tonight will be the first visit to Anfield for the latter since there was talk of a transfer during the European Championship.

The boost to their budget could aid their attempts to keep hold of both players this summer.
