Newcastle United are without a few key players ahead of the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Liverpool enter Sunday’s final with mixed emotions following their devastating Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

The Reds’ European campaign came to a heartbreaking conclusion after a penalty shootout defeat at Anfield, with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missing their spot-kicks following 120 minutes of exhausting football.

It was hardly the best preparation for what will be another physically demanding clash at Anfield.

For manager Arne Slot, the Carabao Cup represents an immediate opportunity for redemption and the chance to secure his first piece of silverware since succeeding Jurgen Klopp last summer.

Victory would deliver the club’s 70th major honor and extend their record as the most successful team in League Cup history with an 11th triumph in the competition.

With that mind, let’s take a look at the Newcastle United injury list.

Sven Botman

The Dutchman is currently sidelined with a knee injury that will require surgery, marking another unfortunate setback in what has been a challenging period for the Dutch defender.

The 25-year-old center-back only returned to action in January 2025 after recovering from a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in March 2024 that kept him out for approximately 10 months.

Anthony Gordon

Unlike the other players discussed here, Anthony Gordon is not dealing with a physical injury but rather a suspension that will keep him out of the Carabao Cup final.

The 24-year-old winger received a straight red card during Newcastle’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton after an incident involving Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke6.

The dismissal has triggered a three-match domestic suspension, with the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool being one of the fixtures Gordon will miss2. This is particularly significant as Gordon, who joined Newcastle from Everton, has been a key contributor to the team this season.

Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle United’s captain  is in the later stages of recovery from a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in March 2024, around the same time as teammate Sven Botman’s similar injury.

However, while Botman managed to return to action in January before suffering his new setback, Lascelles’ recovery has been more protracted.

The injury has required surgery on his left foot, with Hall posting an update from his hospital bed on Instagram just yesterday (March 12, 2025): “Still absolutely devastated to not be out there with the lads at such a crucial part of the season.
