As the 2025 summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has emerged as one of the most compelling stories in football.
The Swedish international, fresh off his pivotal performance in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final victory against Liverpool, is set to become one of the most sought-after players in Europe.
With Arsenal already making aggressive moves to secure his signature and Liverpool reportedly initiating contact, Isak’s future promises to dominate headlines in the coming months.
Since joining Newcastle United from Real Sociedad for £63 million in August 2022, the 25-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most prolific forwards.
His record of 57 goals in 99 appearances for Newcastle underscores his consistency and ability to perform at the highest level.
This season alone, he has netted 19 goals in just 25 Premier League matches.
Isak’s performance in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final further solidified his reputation as a big-game player?
His composed finish to double Newcastle’s lead against the Reds showcased not only his technical skill but also his ability to thrive under pressure.
It is this combination of attributes that has made him a target for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal.
But it seems that any side looking to sign the Swede will certainly have their work cut out.
That’s because the Daily Mail has reported that Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has instructed the club’s hierarchy to reject all offers for his prized asset, Alexander Isak, this summer.
The governor of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Newcastle’s majority owners, was present at Wembley on Sunday to witness the Magpies claim their first domestic trophy in 70 years.
Al-Rumayyan watched Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final from the Royal Box before joining the team at Wembley’s Boxpark for a celebratory gathering.
He holds the Swedish striker in higher regard than any other player in the squad and Isak is believed to be his favourite player.
Representatives from Barcelona are said to have been present during Newcastle’s 1-0 win over West Ham last week, with club president Joan Laporta keen on making Isak a marquee signing ahead of Barcelona’s first full season at their redeveloped Nou Camp.
Laporta is said to be a long-time admirer of Isak, who previously impressed in LaLiga during his spell with Real Sociedad.
The substantial asking price Newcastle will demand will likely be a sizeable profit margin on the £63 million they invested to bring Isak from Real Sociedad in August 2022.
