Liverpool may have suffered crushing Champions League disappointment in midweek.

But they remain favourites to beat Newcastle United in Sunday's Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

After all, the Premier League leaders do sit 23 points clear of their sixth-placed opponents and did run out comfortable winners when the teams met at Anfield last month.

The Reds are also the holders after overcoming the odds to beat Chelsea in last season's League Cup showpiece.

Newcastle had lost the final before that, 2-0 to Manchester United, to stretch a domestic trophy drought that now stands at 70 years.

But Blyth-born Dan Burn, a lifelong supporter of the team he now plays for, believes the Magpies will have learned from their experience of 2023.

He said: "We're full of confidence going into the final.

I know there'll be a lot of external noise, but internally, we're just treating it like any other game.

"We've got full belief that we can go there and get the job done."

Newcastle were dealt a blow earlier this month when key winger - and boyhood Liverpool fan - Anthony Gordon was sent off in their 2-1 FA Cup home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Gordon was handed a three-match ban as a result and will therefore be forced to sit out Sunday's final against his beloved Reds through suspension.

But star striker Alexander Isak is fit to play despite some recent injury issues.

The Sweden international has been in sensational form this season and is believed to be a player admired by Liverpool.

And Burn said: "In my opinion, Alex is probably the best striker in the world at the minute.

I feel he's got everything.

I think that's what he's probably going to be judged on.

"But the form that he's in at the minute, I can't see why he shouldn't."

Newcastle will be without defenders Sven Botman, Lewis Hall and Jamaal Lascelles through injury on Sunday.
