Anthony Gordon is likely to miss the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool this month after being sent off in the FA Cup against Brighton, but Newcastle has not ruled out submitting an appeal.

"It looked harsh, but we'll have to analyze it properly," Eddie Howe said about a possible bid to get it overturned.

While Gordon looked baffled at the decision to send him off, it seems unlikely that Newcastle would win any appeal should one be lodged.



Gordon put his hands into the face of an opponent and that only ever ends one way.

Joao Pedro gave Gordon a shove before angry teammates Dan Burn and Matt Targett arrived as back-up to defend Gordon.

"A final is always different but we are wary of the threat they possess," Virgil van Dijk told reporters after Liverpool won 2-0 against Newcastle last week in the Premier League.
