Newcastle are planning to leave St James' Park in favour of a 65,000-capacity super stadium on Leazes Park.

The club's Saudi owners have long been keen on regenerating the Magpies' historic home.

But any expansion looks difficult and have forced the club to look elsewhere.

And according to reports, plans have been put together for a brand new stadium a short distance away from the current site.

Newcastle are reportedly set to take their plans to the government in the hope of pushing the lucrative build through.

Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan - who is fully behind the project - and the rest of the club's Saudi owners were presented with the plans a board summit at Matfen Hall last month.

Chief operating officer Brad Miller and chief executive Darren Eales suggested that a brand-new stadium would be the best route to go down as Newcastle attempt to navigate the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Plans are reportedly at an early stage but some executives have been stunned by the drawings.
