The latest news that presents a problem to the beginning of the 2025-26 season for Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian forward and the Reds could see a hindrance to some part of next season, something that has not been experienced during his time at Anfield.

The Reds recently announced that the no.11 has penned a contract extension of two years, ending a long period of uncertainty about his future at the club he has spent the last eight seasons since joining from AS Roma.

Regardless of the contract extension, Arne Slot will be posed with a major selection problem next season, as a result of the rescheduled Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

AFCON 2025, originally scheduled to host in the summer of 2025, has been shifted to take place from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.

The new date for the competition comes due to the event of the new-look FIFA Club World Cup happening in June and July, 2025.

DAVEOCKOP reports that the fresh schedule of the African Cup of Nations will clash with the Premier League’s busy festive period.

The new scheduling also represents a significant departure from past mid-season AFCON competitions, which normally took place in January and February, a period when the domestic cup tournaments limited the amount of League matches missed.

Salah’s nation Egypt find themselves in Group B with Zimbabwe, South Africa and Angola.

Their first match is against Zimbabwe on December 22, and then they lock heads with South Africa on December 26.

Their final group stage match is against Angola on December 29.

If the Pharaohs make it past the group stages, Salah will probably be out of action for Liverpool until mid-January.
