Northern Ireland star urges cool heads in Liverpool’s push to wrap up title success

The Northern Ireland star has recently returned from injury and made an immediate impact, registering an assist in the Anfield club’s 3-2 defeat at Fulham on April 6 before playing 68 minutes from the start in his side’s 2-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

The Co Tyrone man, who may continue to get the nod at right-back in Arne Slot’s starting line-up despite Trent Alexander-Arnold’s own imminent return from injury, was subbed off while Liverpool were 1-0 up over the Hammers.

Afterwards, captain Virgil van Dijk – days before inking a new two-year deal to end speculation and commit his future in Merseyside – notched the winner one minute from time after Andy Robertson’s 86th-minute own goal pegged the London club back on level terms.

That gritty success means Liverpool sit 13 points clear at the top of the table and guaranteed to win the Premier League title should they win at least two of their remaining six fixtures.

They could clinch it as soon as Sunday should they beat Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in the 4.30pm kick-off and Arsenal lose on their trip to Ipswich Town earlier in the day.

But Bradley, who missed Northern Ireland’s March double-header against Switzerland and Sweden due to a hamstring injury and hadn’t played for six weeks prior to the Fulham loss, says his side won’t get carried away despite having one hand on the English top-flight crown.

“It's getting closer, we are just another two wins away,” said Bradley, speaking after the victory over West Ham.

“We just have to keep working and finish the season as strong as we can.

We just have to keep our heads down and keep going.

“It was a difficult second-half.

The lads had to stick together and it was brilliant to get the three points.

“I thought the first-half was really good, we created loads of chances and played really good football, but the second-half, we sat off a bit and allowed them to control the game.

That can happen when you're in a title race.

“You can't control the game for 90 minutes every football match.

Sometimes you have to ride your luck and defend well.”

Bradley also welcomed the return of Alisson between the sticks as he made his injury comeback following a head injury sustained on international duty with Brazil in March.

The goalkeeper missed the Fulham defeat and the 1-0 derby victory over Everton prior to his return in the West Ham game, and the 20-times-capped favourite amongst the Green and White Army described him as “the best in the world” following that success.

“It makes it a hell of a lot easier when you have Ali behind us,” Bradley continued.

“He's a wonderful goalkeeper, the best in the world in my opinion.

If I get beat one-on-one, it's so good to know he is behind me so he can pull me out of jail.”
