New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot emphasized in his first interview with club staff that he inherits a strong squad, yet there is clear room for improvement in the transfer market.

A priority for many is securing a central defender following Joel Matip’s departure, while adding a holding midfielder would also be advantageous.

Even if Liverpool retain all current attackers, bolstering forward options would be beneficial.

As Slot prepares for his debut season at Anfield, the Reds have been linked with several players, including Spain and Athletic Bilbao standout Nico Williams, who has impressed during Euro 2024.

Liverpool’s interest in Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise has cooled with reports suggesting he is close to joining Bayern Munich after recent developments.

This could potentially pave the way for a move for Jamal Musiala, whom Liverpool also reportedly have an interest in.

On the departure front, speculation continues regarding the futures of Luis Diaz and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Liverpool player this summer

Caoimhín Kelleher has hinted he will leave Liverpool this summer in search of regular first-team football.

Until last season, the 25-year-old had primarily featured in cup matches, accumulating just five Premier League appearances over four seasons.

However, a long-term injury to Alisson saw him make 10 top-flight appearances this term and 26 in total for the Reds, including a standout performance in the League Cup final against Chelsea.

He was strongly linked with a departure from Anfield last summer, with interest from clubs like Celtic and Nottingham Forest reportedly in the mix.

Kelleher joined Liverpool’s academy from Ringmahon Rangers in 2015 and he appears set on moving on from the club.

He’s driven partly by ambitions to secure the position of Ireland’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Gavin Bazunu.

Third-choice goalkeeper Adrian is on the verge of joining Real Betis and according to the Daily Mail, “Kelleher is looking to leave himself after getting a taste for regular first team football but Liverpool rate the Irish international around £35million and rejected half that from Nottingham Forest in January.”

“Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo remains keen on the Irishman after his stellar performances in the back end of the season and Liverpool’s bargaining position has been strengthened.

“The Reds would likely not stand in Kelleher’s way if he did want to leave the club in search of a No 1 jersey elsewhere, though, with Forest just one of many clubs interested in securing his services?

Celtic are very keen but would almost certainly be priced out of a move.”

If Kelleher departs Anfield alongside Adrian, Liverpool will need to look for a new goalkeeper.
