'Number one target': Journalist makes 'almost certain' claim about Liverpool's interest in £50m player

Liverpool are still yet to make any concrete moves with time running out in the January transfer window.

The Reds could potentially do with an addition or two during the winter market but have so far chosen to stay out of it.

That could still change over the next two weeks or so, but for now it would seem unlikely that Liverpool will be bolstering their squad before the deadline.

That will disappoint supporters, who were hopeful that the Liverpool owners would back Arne Slot and give him the tools needed to go on and win the Premier League.

Nevertheless, even if January looks set to be deathly quiet, the summer could be a different story.

Liverpool badly need to upgrade their left-back situation and have been strongly linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a result.

After claims on Wednesday that Kerkez is favouring a move to Anfield, journalist Paul Gorst has added more credence to the rumours.

Liverpool’s need for a new left-back is clear.

Andy Robertson has been a wonderful, amazing player for the Reds but his career is starting to wind down.

Kostas Tsimikas should take over as first choice for the time being, but Tsimikas is not a long-term starter for Liverpool either.

As a result, the appeal of adding someone like Kerkez is very clear indeed.

He wouldn’t come cheaply, mind you, with The i reporting that it could take up to £50m to persuade Bournemouth into a sale.

Nevertheless, speaking on The Redmen TV, Gorst says that Kerkez is ‘almost certain’ to be in Liverpool’s thoughts and could even be their number one target for the summer.

“Milos Kerkez seems to be the front-runner,” he says while discussing the search for a new left-back.

“I can’t see it happening in January, but in the summer if that is the area Liverpool look to address then he’s probably the number one target.”

While some would view Kerkez as being the perfect option for Liverpool, his price tag is also incredibly steep.

If the Reds don’t wish to shell out £50m on a new left-back, there are alternatives out there.

Bayern Munich have hit a new problem with Alphonso Davies as they try to get the Canadian to extend his deal beyond this summer and he should remain an attractive player for Liverpool.

Although Davies could be signed for free, his wages would obviously make the overall package an expensive one to do, though.

The third player seemingly in the running is Wolves full-back Rayan Ait Nouri, who will have just one year to go on his own contract this summer and could offer the best of both a Kerkez and a Davies.
