Sky Sports has provided a positive update on the future of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
It has been a few bad days for Liverpool fans, who have been inundated by reports about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s imminent move to Real Madrid.
Over the last few days, multiple reports have indicated that Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is now a matter of when, not if.
After months of speculation, it looks increasingly likely that the 26-year-old right-back will join the Spanish giants on a free transfer this summer, ending his 19-year association with his boyhood club.
Madrid’s interest dates back to at least 2023, but their pursuit intensified after Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury in October 2024 left them reliant on makeshift solutions like Lucas Vázquez.
Alexander-Arnold’s hybrid role—combining elite creativity (87 assists for Liverpool) with tactical flexibility—aligns with Carlo Ancelotti’s vision.
Liverpool offered the Englishman a lucrative extension, but they have seemingly failed to convince their academy product to stay.
However, while Liverpool appears to have ultimately failed in convincing their vice-captain to remain at the club, they appear to have no issue with Salah and Van Dijk’s contract situation.
Like Alexander-Arnold, both players could leave for free this summer unless the club extends their current deals.
Those who are familiar with the situation reveal that, unlike the right-back, both players want to stay.
Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy has even said that the duo is desperate to remain at the club.
The journalist made this revelation when speaking about Alexander-Arnold’s imminent move to Real Madrid.
Reddy’s update is similar to what we have been hearing for some time now, but the journalist also added that the situation around Alexander-Arnold will not affect Liverpool’s offer to either Salah or Van Dijk.
“Alexander-Arnold’s situation will have no bearing on what happens with Salah and Van Dijk as all contract offers have been drafted on individual merit, data and circumstances,” she told Sky Sports.
“The optimism is still strong that the pair will remain.”
