After the recent success of the COVID pilot gig featuring Blossoms at Liverpool’s Sefton Park during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, The Music Venue Trust has announced that at least 2,534 socially distanced shows in 266 grassroots venues throughout England will take place between 17 May and 21 June.

Kevin Jones, MVT CEO, has described the development as ‘amazing news’.

“The fact that musicians can get back to work, music fans can start to enjoy a live music experience again, and all the associated staff in the music venue eco-system can go back to earning a living again is amazing news,” he told Event Industry News.

The pilot festival featured indie bands Blossoms, The Lathums and Liverpool musician Zuzu, who performed to a crowd of 5,000 spectators, which was the first no-mask music event since the UK went into its first lockdown 14 months ago.

As Blossoms took to the stage, frontman Tom Ogden yelled out “Good evening, you beautiful people!

“We are Blossoms from Stockport.

These things are supposed to be spontaneous – you do your thing, we’ll do our thing… But what I will say is we’re gonna have the best night we’ve had for a very, very long time,” he went on to say, via NME.

Despite restrictions on music events over the last year, the Stockport band have been productive during lockdown, releasing their 2020 album ‘Isolation Covers’ which includes unique takes on the music of Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, and The Beatles.

As reported by the List, the band have also confirmed their fourth album is now complete and should be released soon.

We at the Liverpool Chronicle are excited to see other musicians join the likes of Blossoms on-stage in the coming months, as the UK Government are beginning to ease lockdown restrictions, and with so many shows booked in grassroots music venues it will be one step closer to normalcy for many gig-goers.

For more information on how to help local grassroots music, there is a campaign called #SaveOurVenues – you can learn more about it here.
